Making Progress ...

We're making progress everyday ...

Mom has been in a lot of pain the last couple of days ... I think today was a little better as far as pain goes ... BUT ... with it being Saturday, she only had PT and OT once each ... so that gave her a little break from the hard week we've had ... they are very aggressive in Rehab and they mean business!!! So she welcomed her slight break today ... PT was rough this morning, but all in all, it was still a better day than the last couple of days.

I was with her all day today ... left about 8pm this evening ...

YES ... very tired ... thank GOD she comes home Tuesday morning! It will be MUCH easier to care for her at home ... she's just worried about the actual ride home (getting in and out of the car) ...

She is still so swollen, which in turn makes PT difficult ...

OT this afternoon was an "easy out" ... they worked on upper body "arm" strengthening ... and discussed plans of going home ...

This afternoon Renee came to visit and then the Batson's came to visit ... this helps to pass the time when company comes ... =0) and keeps her mind off some of the pain by occupying her with conversation ...

Mom, Renee and myself played SEVERAL games of Racko this evening ... Mom really seemed to enjoy herself ... HOWEVER ... for her to be able to play properly, she layed in bed and Renee and I stood up on either side of the bedside table and played ... thank GOD I wore flats today ... =0)

I must get some good sleep ... it's back up there in the morning to relieve my aunt ...

Mom is not the only one who is happy she's coming home Tuesday!!!!!

What A Party ...

What a busy day yesterday ...

From working, last minute errands for the party, the party, and the hospital ...

We took dinner to the hospital and had dinner with Nana ...

Nana is in a LOT of pain!!!! She has so much swelling right now that therapy has been very difficult ... pain to tears yesterday ... not fun! Especially when the therapist had to pull her legs past the 90 degree mark ... with all the swelling, it "seemed" impossible ... she made it through okay ... but with lots of pain!

Today she is working on getting in and out of a similated car ... not good! Thank goodness we have 4-5 more days before actually trying to get in a car ... she is supposed to come home Tuesday morning ...

Here are a few pics from the party yesterday ...

we painted picture frames ...

added stickers ...

inserted the picture we took last week ...

ate ...

decorated cakes ...

made puzzles ...

it was a fun filled two hours!!!!

these are a few of the cute boxes (out of cereal boxes) to insert valentine's into that they made this week too ...

then ... to the hospital to visit with Nana ... she was really not feeling well last night ... this is LeAnna (who dressed herself) occupying herself on the cot next to Nana's bed ... we have practically lived at the hospital for a week now ... and she's made herself at home!

working like a crazy woman this morning ... and now on my way back to the hospital ...

Oui Oui ...

Happy Heart Day ...

LeAnna got woke up this morning by her new "talking" puppy ... needless to say - she jumped right up and was ready to begin her day of festivities at school ... we have a party this afternoon and I'm in the process of trying to get it all together ... in the middle of everything else going on around here!!!!

Mom is on her way to recovery ... she is experiencing LOTS of pain ... thank God for pain pills!!!! She's poppin' them!

We still have no clue when she's coming home ... if you ask her if she's ready - she says NO WAY!!!!

They told us yesterday that we have to do something to the 6-8 inch step into the side door or she won't be able to get in ... this should only be for a little while, until therapy gets her to that point ...

So ... we're trying to figure something out ... build a ramp, pour a step ... who knows!

AND ... just thinking about trying to get her in and out of a car seems impossible at this point ... SO much "I'm learning" that we take for granted everyday when it comes to just bending our knees!

Thank goodness the surgery is over and we are progressing with therapy on our road to recovery! Thanks for all the prayers and support - we do appreciate it!

My "funny" valentine got me something ... he had to build up the gift and make sure I was "okay" with it ... (not your "normal" candy and flowers) and assured me I could return it ... and that I could "add to it" before me even seeing it or knowing what it was!!!! I couldn't even imagine what it could be while he was chatting about all of this!

I just stared for a moment ... then went into shock about it ...

Wow!!!!!

Did I love it? Oui - Oui (that would be Yes! Yes! in French)

Pronounced - Leh-crew-say (for those of you who aren't up to snuff on your french!) - yep ... I made sure I was pronouncing it correctly ...

AND happy to find out ... they have a new LeCruset store in Hill Place!!! DANGEROUS!!!!! Now that I have permission to collect!!!!

Can't wait to cook in it ... you can do virtually anything in this - so excited to try it out!!!!

And it has a lifetime guarantee ... this is stuff I can pass down to LeAnna

If you're not familiar with the product ... each piece is hand-made, which means every piece is original with slight variations ... cool ... it's cast iron with enamel and is known for its fashionable colors that are available ... mine is red. So excited! They actually carry LeCruset at Williams Sonoma as well ... but very excited they actually have a LeCruset store here now!

I must hurry and prepare for the party this afternoon ...

happy day ... tammy

We're Finally In Rehab ...

Okay ... so the weekend was a blur!

My cousin got sick and so it's pretty much been just my Aunt Betty and myself with Mom ... Sunday I was at the hospital for 14 1/2 hours and then my aunt relieved me and stayed the night with her ... I was back early Monday morning to relieve her and was there until 8pm last night ...

Mom has improved everyday ... and is doing so much better!
She has totally shocked the therapy people and have exceeded their expectations ... yea Mom!
We were told all along to do EXACTLY what they tell you to do - if not - you pay!!! She was SO scared that she worked through the pain and ended up exceeding the requirement!!! Her knees went past 90 degrees before expected too!!!!!

Yea!!! We are SO proud of her!!!!

The therapist told us on Monday morning ... that when they have a patient that doesn't "try" and work hard ... one of two things happens ... they either have to go back to surgery OR the therapist lays you down and pulls on your legs until the scar tissue rips !!!!!!

OKAY ... that's all we needed to know!!!!!

Thank GOD Mom heeded the prior warnings and did great!!!!!!

She got really sick yesterday and we spent about 4 1/2 hours with a rag on her head and a bedpan in front of her ... (NOT FUN) ... she got TOO much pain meds on an empty stomach ... YUCK ... anyhoo ...we're learning and adjusting ...

She was dismissed from Baptist Hospital yesterday afternoon and moved to Baptist Rehab ... we were so happy to find this out!!!! This was our first choice and she got in!

She has to be much more independent in Rehab - but she wants to and that makes hers, and everyone elses's life much easier!!!! Again - yea Mom!!!!
She is doing very well and this morning started her 4 times a day regimen of therapy ... she will be in rehab for 5-7 days ... And then once she comes home we will be going to therapy 3 times a week (we think) ... for about 6 weeks or so ...

We are SO very proud of her ... she has come so far already and just from Saturday to Sunday looked like a totally different person! Yesterday she looked more like Nana and was feeling much better ... even said, "wish I had done this a long time ago!" Even said on Sunday (when having to get up and walk) that she had MORE pain the last two weeks (prior to surgery) than walking on Sunday!!! Woo-Hoo Mom!!!!

I'm back up there after lunch ... had a meeting this morning for work ... trying to fit it all in this week!!!! Whew!!!! VERY worn out ... BUT had a good nights sleep last night ... and that helps!!!!

I'll post more later ...

If anyone would like to send her a card, etc ... here's her address:

Ann Johnson

c/o Baptist Hospital
Room #6310
2000 Church Street
Nashville, Tennessee 37236

.... here are some pics ...

looks like the doc got side-tracked here ... he didn't cut too straight! ha! Only saying this because the other incision is very straight! This hurts me to look at it!!!! Ekkk!!!!

This is the first thing I noticed when we walked into our "rehab room" ... Okay ... gotta do something about this ... it bothers me and I sure can't sit here all day looking at it ... so I made the comment that "this would be something for me to do" ...

must have bothered Mom too, because she said, "hand it to me - I'll work on it" ... (therapy hadn't started yet so this was actually exciting to have "something" to do I guess)

If you could have seen her the day before this you would be astonished!!!! She is blowing our minds!!! Go Mom!!!!

The Button ...

Introducing ...

Mom's "new" best friend ...

"the button"

that's filled with drugs!

If she's pushed it once ... she's pushed it 1,000 times today!!!! Bless her heart ... she's in so much pain ...

But "the button" is making her very sick too ... SO ... it's been a LONG day for everyone!

They've been doing therapy today and she's walked twice ...

the good thing is ... she said it hurt more to walk the last two weeks than today!!!! WOW!!!! Most of the pain is from the machine and the therapist lifting each leg up ALL THE WAY and then back down ... the therapist worked on her twice today ... the machine runs two hours solid at a time ... this is very painful ...

yep ... this would be where her "best friend" would come in to play!!!

BUT ... sadly ... "the button" is leaving in the morning ... and it's pain pill only!!! They started to wean her from the button tonight and started pills by mouth ... she was NOT happy about her new friend leaving ... but ... hopefully some of the "sickness" will go away with the button!

It has definitely been a rough day ...

I'm VERY tired and I've got to be there by 6 or 7 in the morning to relieve my aunts who stayed with her tonight.

She's been so polite and tells everyone thank you no matter what they do for her ... but also asks everyone to pray for her because of the pain ... I'm positive she would appreciate any prayers for her sake right now ...

more updates later ...

Happy ZZZZZ (hopefully) ... tammy

Surgery ...

update ...

we got to the hospital at 6:30am yesterday morning ... was taken to a room almost immediately ... (wow fast service) ... you would think a "trend setter" for the day ...

hmmm ...

they did all the normal stuff to get her ready for surgery ... which took about an hour or so ... after the nurse's game of 2,100 questions about what she did just that morning ... she asked me to follow her to the front desk ... she checked with the surgeon ... he was in surgery on his first case ... it started at 7:30am ... and there was patient #2 and then Mom (patient #3) ... so her surgery would be around 9:30am ... but ... patient #2 "so far" was a no-show ...

okay ... hmmm ... do you just wake up the morning of surgery and say ... I think I'm going to sleep in - I don't feel like surgery today?!

crazy ... anyhoo ... with this knowledge ... we were told that it was very possible that Mom would get bumped up to #2's slot and she would go earlier ...

cool ... ok ... I'm hungry now ... I've been up since 5:15am ... and I'm ready to at least get some caffiene ...

so at 7:50 my cousin and I decided that if a partial hip replacement started at 7:30am ... given the odds ... we would have time for 15 minutes of "something" ...

so we left for the cafeteria ...

we were down there about 3 minutes and my phone beeped with a message ... (cell service not good on the bottom floor of the hospital) ... so I checked my message ... it was my aunt saying ... they are taking her NOW! WHAT?!?!?!?! So I sat my food down along with my purse and my cousin and I ran ... got there ... missed her!

Yikes! I didn't get to tell her bye!!!! Left the room, head down ... very disappointed ... and regretful for letting my stomach take rule over the situation ... as I was walking back up the hall, I ran into a friend of mine who is also related to my related (does this make sense?) anyhoo ... she is an RN at Baptist who understood the situation and immediately said ... "I can take care of this" ... so she took me to the surgical holding room and I got to see her for like 30 seconds ... held her hand, tearfully told her I loved her and that everything was going to be okay ... and than rushed out because supposedly they were getting her prepped to be whisked away to surgery very soon!

So ... back to the cafeteria to partake of the very cold hospital eggs and biscuit that my cousin was now guarding with a paper towel drapped over it ... yikes!

We finish and head to the waiting room ... to wait ...

They said they would call as soon as they started the first cut ...

an hour passed ... so we assumed, well ... they are busy and they are so into what they are doing ... they didn't take the time to call! (whatever)

So after about two hours ... we're thinking ... you know ... they should be about done now ... still waiting ...

FINALLY around 10:20 they called and said ... we haven't taken her back yet ... the surgeon was detained in the first surgery ... okay ... that's okay ...

Magazine round #4 ... there are several people waiting with us, but they start to leave due to non-activity ... understandable ... because at this point ... we figured she would be in recovery ...

(thanks Renee for all the magazines! they came in handy!)

About 11:30 the nurse came and got us and said ... would you like to visit with her?

WHAT?!!??!!? So we went back for about 20 minutues or so and stood around her, talked with her ... had her laughing a bit ... mind you, we are in the surgical holding room, which is where everyone is laying side by side together waiting for their "happy juice" before being wheeled into one of the next rooms for surgery ... I'm looking at each person, wanting to say "so, what are you in here for?" ... not appropriate ... all attention goes back to Nana ...

After a bit the nice nurse who felt so sorry for my Mom for having to wait so long on what seemed like a pediatric stretcher that definitely needed some extensions, asked us if we were ready for lunch ... in other words ... it's time to go ...

so ... back to the waiting room ... (named appropriately)

1:20pm -we finally get the call that she has been taken to surgery and the first cut was at 1:05pm ...

LUNCH!!!!! YEA!!!!!! I mean ... YEA!!!! Finally, they've started!!!!

So we went to the cafeteria ...thank God they have a big selection ...

To make this long story shorter (this is my journal - making a memory here) ...

at 3:25 the doc called and said "it is finished!" .... a Petra song comes to mind for those of you old enough to remember the 80's ... "It is finished" ... anyhoo ...

"Ann tolerated the surgery well in a stable condition" (his words)

"she's on her way to recovery in about 10 minutues and you should see her about 6:00pm"

WHAT?!?!?!? In 12 hours - you would expect to have every body part replaced ... anyhoo ...

exhausted ... (should have fell asleep before 1:30am knowing I had to get up at 5:15am)

The afternoon got busy ... unloading her luggage (okay one bag, but it sounded resort like) ... got settled in the room, suite ... my friend got us a suite!!! Thanks Kim!!! She pulled some very nice strings for us ... and waited ...

It was almost 6pm when they brought her to the room ... snoring away! Woo-hoo!

THEN, she came around ... ouch!

She was in the room about 15 minutes and they put her on a machine that for two hours solid, moves your leg up and down ... WHAT?!?!?!?!!?

I left the room, she was crying out so much (4 nurses trying to figure it out) ...

crazy ...

after two hours on the left leg, they put it on the right for two more hours ...

Anyhoo ... very much pain, but she is doing well ...

This morning the doc said she was doing well, but to remain on a liquid diet for today (she was scarfing some jello last night and said jellow never tasted so good!)

Therapy was in at 8:30am this morning READY TO START RECOVERY!

Oh my ... I can't even imagine ... I cried watching her cry last night ...

So ... if you're awake and/or paying attention at all after reading all of this you get a prize!
I'm going to get dressed and head back up there ... long day ... will be a long weekend and a long next 3 months!

Say Cheese ...

Today ... I had to run to school and take a picture for a valentine project we're doing next week ... I signed up to help out this school year and the Valentine's Day party was my responsibility ...

LOVE doing stuff like this ... BUT ... it's bad timing for me!

SO ... I'm trying to get a jump on next week, this week!

One of the things we're doing at the party next week is making picture frames ... found the frames at Michaels for $1.00 each ... purchasing pink and red paint and small sponges and we're painting frames! Then I purchased some foam letters and the kids are going to personalize their frames with their name. SO ... today I made posters for each child to hold and then went to school to snap a picture to have devloped and put in their frames next week!

I've got the whole party planned out and even made a timeline of the party and gave it to the teacher today ... she seemed impressed - but I assured her that it was ONLY for my sanity to get through this next week! ha! There is a lot of other things planned for the party - I'll post "post party" info next week...

On my way out the door to go home this afternoon, I snapped a few pics in the hallway of some of the kids artwork ... fun!

Tomorrow is surgery day ... Poor Mom ... we had prayer with her this evening ... she is just so nervous about it all ... PLEASE whisper a prayer for her in the morning ... I know God can and will give her peace ... AND us too!

I'll post a report tomorrow evening ... I plan on being there all day tomorrow and come home some time tomorrow night ... we are going to take shifts staying with her ... "one" of her requests is that we not leave her alone ... totally understand - I would be the same way!

1/2 Naked At The Mall ...

so ...

got LeAnna feeling better ...

then ...

I started feeling bad ...

Maybe I'm just tired ... lack of sleep ... who knows!

Anyhoo ... I have to admit I do feel somewhat better this morning ...

Night before last was miserable ... didn't sleep much and when we did, didn't sleep well ... (storm night) ... anyhoo ...

LAST NIGHT ... much more horrible!!!!!

My "all night" dream ... (which probably only lasted 10 minutes before I woke up) ... was awful!!!!

I was to attend some "church function" - but it was located within a mall that included tons of restaurants (of course) ... for some dumb reason ... I "had to get dressed" at the mall before the function started ... yep ... crazy ...

anyhoo ... all night long ... I went through the mall "looking for something to wear" for the function ... I kept running into people who were on their way in - they kept looking at me funny (I was 1/2 dressed) ... I would leave one store (that was holding part of my closet) and go to another store (where another part of my closet was located) ... and then to another (that also held a part of my closet) ... WHAT?!?!?!?! So dumb ...

anyhoo ... I continued this ... over and over ... until I was finally running from store to store looking for "something to wear" ... in the middle of all of this ... I would be running and I would pass a mirror and see myself and the way I looked and just scream out with horror of "what am I going to do" ...
then while I was running from store to store I would also run through a restaurant and look at people (who I knew - more embarrassing) they would try to stop me and chat ... WHAT?!?!!? ... I'm NOT dressed folks!!!!
so dumb ...

finally ... Nathan and LeAnna walked out of "the function" ... it was over ... and he said ... "where have you been? and why don't you have on your clothes?" ...

yep ... total embarrassment ... total humiliation ... and then ... NATE (litterally) flipped on the lights and said "time to get up"!!!!!

That was my night ...

I woke up "embarrassed, exhausted, humiliated, frustrated ... and the list goes on and on"

CRAZY I tell you!

Anyhoo ... Nathan asked me if I slept okay last night ... I was NOT in the mood to explain what I had just been through all night ... so I just said ... "no, I did not sleep well at all"! He said "why?" ... again ... not wanting to go into ANY detail ... I said ... "I don't know" ...

hmmmm ...

MAYBE I'M JUST FAT AND FRUSTRATED WITH MYSELF!!!! ... Huh?! ... You think?!

Do you ever wonder if fat is just flying around in space and then poof! it falls out of the sky one night and just happens to land on your hinder parts and then you wake up and you go ... aahhhh - that's where it came from!

Yep ... I think that's how it happens!

Anyhoo ... my sugar was also high when I woke up ... let's just contribute all this silly nonsense to high sugar ...

rrriiiggghhhhttttt ....

Anyhoo ... I think I'm just worked up over Mom's surgery in the morning ... bless her heart ...

Okay ... going to "try" and think "thin - small - petite - all my clothes fit - thoughts" today and see what happens!

A Hook Echo in the Tornadic Activity ...

The storms last night were horrible!!!!!

We were up a good part of the night ... waiting ... watching ... couldn't sleep mainly!

Some friends of ours in Jackson who pastor Lighthouse Pentecostal church - were hit by one of the tornados ...

We talked with them last night ... devestated to say the least ... they had gone to their church for safety with four other families ... when they saw it coming, they ran into a "block-type" room off of the gym and waited it out ... when they walked out everything was demolished ...

His words were "it's a total loss" ... and "God saved our lives" ...

They were on their way to their home to assess the damage there ... but, we heard this morning that their home was fine ... thank God!

Our hearts went out to them full strength ... we were SO grateful they were all safe though - that was our main concern.

We heard so many bad reports ... thank God for protection ...

At one point during the storm, I realized how many windows we have in our home!!!! The hail was beating so hard on our windows and garage door, it sounded like a crowd of people outside throwing as many rocks as they could at our house ...

LeAnna was scared to death to say the least!!! Nate kept saying "get in the bathroom" ... she couldn't process "why" ... until we finally realized if we would stop and explain "why" she would be okay ... which we did ... bless her heart ...

and ... Princess flipped out ... I guess she thought she was in trouble ... so she got in her crate and stayed there!

The scary part was ... not "knowing" what the storm was going to do next ... we were watching it constantly on channel 2 news (Nate determined this was the best up-to-date info) .... and just wondering where it was going to hit next ...

Learned a new "weather term" last night ... "hook echo" ... couldn't figure it out at first and they sure didn't "explain" ... kept watching and finally learned what the term meant ... AND our new favorite "storm term" - "tornadic activity" was used constantly last night! Ha! That was made famous by a news reporter a couple of years ago!

Hook Echo definition ...

METEOROLOGIST JEFF HABY - A hook echo is displayed on radar reflectivity. It is a signature produced by precipitation held aloft that wraps around the mid-level mesocyclone. Since the mesocyclone has counterclockwise winds, the reflectivity signature of a hook echo will have a cyclonically shaped hook. The area free from reflectivity inside the hook is the updraft and inflow notch region of the supercell. A hook echo is one clue to a radar operator that a supercell has a potential of producing a tornado. Many of the violent tornadoes associated with classic supercells will show a distinct hook echo.

It seems so calm this morning ... compared to last night ...

I was trying so hard to "remain calm" for LeAnna's sake - so she would stop flippin' out ... that at one point during the storm I was jumping around trying to make her laugh so she would "calm down" ... she was looking at me like "Mom, we are in the middle of a storm and you are acting stupid" ... that was the look I got anyway ... oh well ... she's getting older and understanding way more than she gets credit for sometimes!

oh well ...

I have lots on the agenda today ... and SO sleepy ...

What a way to welcome my family from Florida! I was just glad that they landed yesterday way before the storms started ... and I know they were!

They left a sunny 80 something degree Florida and arrived in a 75 degree Tennessee ... that was nice for a February 5th!!!

Now ... they're going to get to enjoy some "winter" ... just hoping "winter" happens and then moves on out before Easter this year!!!! The last thing I want is snow and cold on Easter "again" ... AND Easter is in March ... hmmm

oh well ...

Peek-A-Boo ...

LeAnna's temp was back to normal last night and was fine this morning ... so back to school for her!!!

Yesterday ... LeAnna and I decided to get out the arts and crafts and make her valentines for next week ... this really worked out well ... she had "time" to do it yesterday afternoon and with Nana having surgery Friday - I'm just happy to get this project done ... PLUS ... it was more fun making them "homemade" than buying them ... AND ... it gave her something to do yesterday!

Today I have the dreaded annyal ob/gyn appointment! I am so excited that I think I'll run get dressed right now! Actually ... does it really matter what you wear to these appointments? Ah ... no! No one ever gets to enjoy your outfit ... all they see is this peek-a-boo piece of paper that they ask you to try and cover yourself appropriately with ... and this has GOT to be for my sanity only ... because I'm thinking "what's the use" ... the doc just lifts the peek-a-boo paper which doesn't leave me feeling very camoflaged at that point! Anyhoo ... a must do ... something else to check off my list of "things to do in 2008"! No worries ... there will be NO photography coverage from this event!

Anyhoo ... I planned my appointment so I could pick up my family from the airport this afternoon, since my doc is on that side of town. My aunt Betty and cousin Nena are here for the duration of Mom's surgery/recovery. I am SO thankful they are able to come and help out ... Wow!!!! They'll never know how much we appreciate it!

The Bug has a Bug ...

My lucy bug is sick ... I'm surprised she hasn't gotten sick before now ... there has been a virus going around at school ... they were sending home kids like crazy the last two weeks ... She was fine Saturday and then woke up yesterday morning complaining with her stomach hurting - crying with it hurting ... I felt her head - she was so hot ... took her temp ... 102 degrees ... so I figured that was the reason her stomach was hurting (I was hoping) ... and it was ... by the time her temp started coming down her stomach ache went away ... but she ran a temp all day (with Tylenol) and woke up with a temp this morning ...

So ... yesterday we colored and made cards for Nana ... and then colored some more! I definitely got "crayon time" in yesterday ... and was happy to find "new colors" ... I just haven't paid that much attention in years! ha!

Today I've had to work and she's been "begging" for me to color with her ... guess I'll have to take a break and color at some point ...

This is surgery week and Nana is in SO much pain ... bless her heart ... surgery is Friday and she is anticipating it ... prior to this last week it was "dread of the surgery" ... now it's "dread of the current pain" and she's ready for surgery! Please whisper a prayer on her behalf for this Friday and the weeks of recovery to come ...

Backward Clothes and Flushin' Ice Cubes ...

Thursday night we went to a surprise birthday party for a friend of ours and at the party one of the kids explained that if you wore your pj's backwards, flushed ice down the toilet and did a little dance in front of your bed that it would snow and school would be out the next morning!

Well ... we were "expecting" something to happen Friday morning because of an email we got from school on Thursday saying "watch the weather" and we also watched the news on Thursday evening ...

So Friday morning, we wake LeAnna up and when she finds out that "there IS school" ...

she says "oh no!" ... "it's all my fault" ...

what is your fault LeAnna?

"it's my fault that there is school and that it didn't snow!"

why?

"because I didn't wear my pjs backwards and I didn't flush ice!"

ha! oh well ... we finally convinced her that it wasn't her fault and that all was well ... funny ...

We had friends over for dinner this evening (saturday) ... we had a great time ... food was good, fellowship was good ... and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves as well ... they decided they would put on a show and entertain us after dinner ... from the best we can tell - a band was created - Jaden, Sophie and Drew were "the band" and LeAnna (not sure who she was trying to be) but she pulled up a stool, hopped on it and sang with a song from the ipod. They made their instruments out of toys from the playroom. They had a really good time!

I read this and I wanted to share ... If it doesn't help anyone else - it sure helped me!

enjoy ...

This is an absolutely incredible interview with Rick Warren, author of "Purpose Driven Life" His wife now has cancer, and he now has "wealth" from the book sales. In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:"People ask me, "What is the purpose of life?" And I respond:

In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body--but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one. The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort. God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy. We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer. I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore. Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life. No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems. If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, "which is my problem, my issues, my pain." But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her. It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people. You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life. Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder.

For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy. It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease. So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves:

Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism?

Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to -do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.

Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.

Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.

Painful moments, TRUST GOD.

Every moment, THANK GOD. "

I hope this helped someone ... it sure helped me ...

happy days ... tammy
